A mutual aid care package project

Send care.
Receive wonder.

WonderBox brings volunteer artists, makers, and curators together to create throughtful, personal care packages for someone who could use support, delight, or a reminder that they matter.

What it is

Care doesn’t have to be transactional.

A simple idea, made real by people.

The WonderBox Care Package is a mutual aid project rooted in a simple idea: care doesn’t have to be transactional.

At the center is one person—the recipient. Someone we want to support, uplift, and remind that they matter.

A group of artists, makers, and curators come together to create something for them. Everything in the box is contributed freely—materials, time, and creative energy.

We often think of love as something exchanged between two people. But there’s another version—when a group comes together to care for someone they may never meet.

This project lives there.

What it is

For example.

A box might include things like:

  • something stitched with stories
  • a small piece of art to keep close
  • a stone worn smooth by time
  • a moment to come back to yourself
  • something to smell or taste
  • something to wear, or a small piece of jewelry to make you sparkle
  • a small thing made by human hands
  • something unexpected

How it works

A slow process of attention.

Each box unfolds through a small series of human, creative steps. Nothing here is rushed.

1

Someone is Nominated

Someone notices a person who could use care, and nominates them.

2

We Connect and Create a Portrait

When the time is right, we reach out and invite them to participate. If they choose to join, they share a small reflection. We then shape this into a simple, anonymous portrait to guide contributors.

3

Artists & Curators Respond

Contributors receive the portrait and begin creating or gathering. Each person adds what they can—objects, artwork, poetry, or something harder to name.

4

The Box Slowly Comes Together

Over time, things are gathered and assembled into a single care package. There’s no fixed timeline—just a slow shaping into something intentional.

5

It Arrives When It's Ready

There’s no delivery date. The element of surprise is part of the experience. It shows up when it’s ready.
